Barbara 'Barbi' Chilo

Murga, a form of popular dance and musical theater, led Barbi to discover and learn the Filete Porteño technique. Murga dance groups from Buenos Aires have long decorated their costumes with filete-inspired art, something that fascinated Barbi. In 2013 she was gifted a Fileteado course taught by Freddy ‘Filete’ Fernandez a technique master and founder of the Fileteasdores del Conourbano, an art collective committed to social and political justice issues.

Barbi’s mural art can be found in schools, popular kitchens, and working neighborhoods. She has also participated in multiple annual Filete Association exhibitions. To Barbi, Filete Porteño is more than a technique, an art form, or a job. It’s a lifestyle, a constant commitment to speak truth to power.
